What tax deduction to use for gratings?
The correct gratings tax deduction is the safety bonus contained within the state “Building Renovation” incentive.
You can download the updated guide directly from the IRS website at this link, but if you don’t want to read dozens of pages, I recommend you continue reading here.

The gratings fall within the security bonus which is aimed at preventing unlawful acts and the state rewards those who equip themselves with defensive means such as gratings, burglar alarms, gates by giving them back half of the expenditure made.

How much is the tax deduction for gratings?
The state incentive amounts to 50% of the expense, including vat! for example if the total invoice for the installation of gratings is €10,000, the state will recoup €5,000 from you.

Exactly half the amount is not little but wait, there is always a but. The state does not make you the security grating bonus with a transfer but discounts it in the taxes you have to pay (IRPEF) and if you do not pay taxes you will not get the deduction.

In how many years do you deduct the gratings?
It takes 10 years, 50 percent of the expense is divided into 10 equal installments, and each year an installment is discounted from the taxes you pay when you do your 730 or single form. The same applies to those who are employees.

The important thing is to have taxes to pay, if one year you don’t have to pay taxes because you have no income then you lose that year’s incentive but not subsequent years.

Going back to the example before, with €5,000 deduction you are entitled to an annual deduction of €500, let’s give 3 examples:
Example 1: I have to pay €1000 in taxes, the state rebates me €500 and I pay only €500
Example 2: I have to pay €300 in taxes, the state rebates me €300 and I lose €200 forever.
Example 3: I don’t have to pay any taxes, the state rebates me nothing and I lose my right to the deduction for that year.

“Fortunately” in Italy there are always a lot of taxes to pay, and as long as there are small amounts involved it is difficult to lose them, but there are also some categories (farmers for example) that do not pay IRPEF and consequently cannot deduct the grates.

Documents needed for the safety bonus
To qualify for the gratings tax deduction, no municipal permits are needed, and the work does not need to be a genuine building renovation or extraordinary maintenance.

All that is needed is a declaration in lieu of affidavit, a self-declaration stating that the work carried out falls within those eligible for the deduction and the date of the work.

The invoice should indicate that you are purchasing security gratings, preferably certified anti-burglary so that you can prove without a shadow of a doubt the effectiveness of prevention to unlawful acts.

What wire transfer to make for tax deductions?
It is essential to pay invoices by wire transfer for state incentive “building renovation.” If you get this step wrong by making a normal transfer, for example, you will permanently lose the tax deduction for the gratings.

You will not lose the incentive on the other hand if you mistakenly make a transfer for “energy efficiency,” but better to make the correct one for “building renovation,” okay?

Invoice discount and assignment of credit
For Safety Bonus interventions, there is no possibility to access invoice discount or credit assignment.
You will necessarily have to discount 50 percent of the expense over 10 years by deducting it from personal income taxes (IRPEF).

Who is eligible for the safety bonus?
All individuals, i.e. private citizens, are eligible to apply for the bonus.

It is not possible to facilitate the installation of security gratings for businesses but only for individuals because the renovation bonus accessed for gratings is only for individuals.
We hope there will be a change of course soon because our businesses also need security.

When does the security grating bonus expire?
Unless extended, the deadline for the security grating bonus tax deduction is December 31, 2024.
For individuals (individuals), the cash principle applies, meaning if you can make the transfer by 12/31/2024 you will be eligible for the tax deduction for new gratings.

How to get tax deductions for gratings?
Summarizing the points seen a moment ago, here is the recipe:

– Purchase security gratings (preferably certified)
– Pay the invoice with a talking money transfer for building renovations
– Keep the transfer account
– Print and sign a declaration in lieu of affidavit
– Take it to your accountant or caf (the first year)
– Keep all of these documents for 15 years (10 years of deduction + 5 by law)

Hopefully these directions have helped you, but in any case it is important that you contact an accountant or caf for all explanations pertaining to the deduction.
